Background of the Study
Digital transformation has profoundly influenced international relations research and practice by introducing new tools and methodologies for communication, data analysis, and policy formulation. E-diplomacy tools—such as virtual conferencing, social media analytics, and digital data platforms—are increasingly used by scholars and practitioners to study and conduct diplomacy (Nguyen, 2023). In Kaduna State, academic institutions and government agencies have embraced these digital innovations to enhance research capabilities and streamline diplomatic processes. Digital platforms enable real-time information exchange, improve transparency, and facilitate more agile decision-making in international relations. However, the adoption of these technologies also presents challenges, including cybersecurity risks, digital divides, and issues related to data privacy and reliability (Okoro, 2024). This study evaluates the effect of digital transformation on international relations by examining the use of e-diplomacy tools in Kaduna State. Through analysis of case studies, surveys of diplomatic practitioners, and reviews of digital platforms, the research aims to assess the benefits, limitations, and overall impact of digital innovations on the field of international relations.
Statement of the problem
Despite the potential of e-diplomacy tools to transform international relations research and practice, their implementation in Kaduna State faces notable challenges. Technical limitations, cybersecurity concerns, and inadequate digital infrastructure can impede effective usage of these digital platforms (Adebayo, 2023). Moreover, varying levels of digital literacy among researchers and practitioners may further limit the benefits of digital transformation. This study seeks to determine whether the current use of e-diplomacy tools enhances international relations or if these challenges significantly undermine their effectiveness, thereby hindering progress in diplomatic research and practice.
Objectives of the Study
To evaluate the impact of e-diplomacy tools on international relations research and practice in Kaduna State.
To identify challenges associated with digital transformation in diplomacy.
To propose strategies to improve the adoption and effectiveness of e-diplomacy tools.
Research questions
How do e-diplomacy tools influence international relations in Kaduna State?
